The Enchantress Rivalry

The Enchantress Rivalry
By: Patrick Zaldarriaga H2B

The stars, the lights, the night. To many of us mortals, one starry night has been nothing but a lifeless vast hovering above us. Unbeknownst to those below it, the stars above have been dwelled by mystical creatures that watch over earth’s inhabitants below. It has been as such for countless centuries. The stars above shine because of them, and the nights have been majestic ever since their existence. They are the enchanters.

Their existence has long been disputed, and legends surrounding them have circulated for millennia. No one knows how they came to be. Their mere dwelling in the night sky has remained controversial to both astronomers and astrologers. Debates conducted, and forums held, but not one single clear explanation has arisen. The enchanters have been and will always remain a mystery, and a subject of myths and legends.

Enchanters have the common nature of peace, kindness and sheer selflessness. The word “war” never occurs to them, and believes that peace and tranquility is the ultimate solution to any conflict. Enchanters have long been at peace with each other, and therefore they run at organized, calm manners. That is until the birth of Katrina and Maiara.

Katrina, born on the 32nd day of the summer equinox, was seen to be a prodigy, a model enchantress and had a bright future ahead as any youngling would aspire to have. Growing up, she demonstrated amazing skill and talent, a heart of gold, and such divine beauty. Truly, she belonged with the stars and the night sky. She had everything, and personified amazing. As she reached her independence years as a maiden, she became the youngest full-fledged enchantress to ever grace the starry nights. Then as time flew like sparrows at dawn, Katrina has become one of the most celebrated young enchantresses the skies have seen in the longest time, reaching a new level of honor and responsibility.

“Katrina, ever loving daughter of the skies, we bestow to your gracefulness the highest honor to any young enchantress, the Mirage Honor. Hold and bear this wholeheartedly, and make the stars proud.” said the chief enchanter.
Rejoicing everyone was. Conflicts halt, pressures extinguished as joy reigned the ever so simple night. Yet not known to all dwellers, the greatest rivalry that the stars could ever witness was about to commence. Enter Maiara.

Maiara. Serpentress and younger sister to Katrina. Born on the 27th day of the winter equinox, she never grew up like her much honorable sister, and Katrina has no knowledge of her existence. They grew up separately on the opposite sides of the sky. Condemned as a young child for her acts of sadism and treachery beyond reasonable doubt, she was exiled and thrown out to the far reaches of the night, changing into the vile creature that she is. Bearing the characteristics of a serpent, she has the power of persuasion, ever swift, ever so cunning. In other words, she is the complete opposite of her older, much angelic counterpart. Maiara is sin personified.
“Katrina…you’re life is mine.” snickered the serpentress.

Undoubtedly, all loved Katrina. Her life was near perfection, near complete. She couldn’t ask for anything else. Maiara hated this, envied it, and swore to the last remaining star that she’d take her heart, and her life. Chaos nears, and the night will stand witness to this.

49th day of the Autumn Equinox. Midnight strikes, and the night becomes alive. The serpentress hides and stalks like the viper that she is. Katrina watches over below as she does, overseeing conditions. In a matter of minutes, the greatest rivalry commences.

“Katrina! Shahhhh!” Gnawing with those venomous fangs.
“Aggghhuuuahhh!” Katrina screaming in pure agony.
It was quickly fatal, swiftly threatening. It was done. Katrina has fallen, but not quite. The serpentress quickly flees, knowing of her grave deed. Chieftains and other dwellers witness the incident, and help the now-fallen Katrina.

“Help her up! Help her up! Bring her to Wizard!” Anonymous voices scrambling.
“Katrina!? Kat! Speak daughter of the skies, speak!” frantic dwellers appeal.

Yet, there was no response. She has fallen ill, fatally ill. Maiara bit her deep in the chest, leaving an infinite mark. Her heart is gone, her soul is raped, death awaits her. Maiara did what she swore she would: Taking Katrina’s life. It was a done deed, a done deal.

The sky mourned, stars dimmed, and the night has become a wasteland. The future awaits her death on Wizard’s chamber. Hope has ceased, and the devil personified delivers once again. The daughter never awakes again, or so it seemed.

Katrina’s life was shortened drastically. She is now forever ill, forever fallen, and death is near as time dictates. Maiara has taken everything away from her, dreams, hopes, heart and life. It is finished. Her place in the stars is now prepared, and she will be one with the night in no time.

62nd day of the Autumn Equinox. She awakens. Much to Wizard’s surprise, Katrina rises up seemingly from the dead, yet pretty much alive after a lengthy sleep.

“Oh Katrina! How can this be? You’re fatally ill and sick? Death nears your way and yet, you rise up? Your gracefulness hath not falter!” Proclaims Wizard.

“Wizard…what happened?” Asks a confounded Katrina.
“Why she took everything my lass…your life, heart and dreams.”
“Does death knock on my door?” Asks once more.
“I’m afraid it has…” says Wizard weepingly.
“Limited my time, and so is my…revenge” She replies.
“Heavens no! It is not enchanter way to do such a sin! My lady, you must know better!” Pleads Wizard.

“For my sake and time, this is necessary. Allow me to fulfill my final dream, a dream of revenge. Death shall take me once I have accomplished, for she will pay dearly…” with a slight grin on her ever so divine beauty.
“My lass! Maiara is your sibling!” Cries Wizard.
“…she dies with me, revenge’s a bitch.” Says Katrina.

Everything was taken from her, and such is unforgivable by sheer speech. Katrina sets out to the far reaches of the night to find the hostile serpentress. Death is no longer an option, but a must.

She journeys into the vast, starless areas of the night. No shine, no glory, truly a wide wasteland of sheer dark clouds. Serpentress Maiara dwells within these dark clouds.

“Maiara! MAIARA!! YOU VILE WITCH! Come out!” Screams Katrina.
“Oh, so I’ve seen you’ve come. How’s the wound? Hurting?” With a slight snicker from Maiara.
“You bitch! Why’d you do this to me huh?! Why my life? Why my suffering? You intolerant lifeless snake!” Says Katrina.

“The prodigy, the future, the salvation, stooping down three levels below my standards. What’s wrong? Is death after you, so you want to live your days fulfilled with revenge?” Grinning gently by Maiara.

“No…death is not after me. It’s after the both of us!!! Gahhhhh!!!!”
Angelic retains no meaning. With a broken, useless future, Katrina disgraces herself, practicing the art of revenge, a forbidden act in enchanter practice. Ironically, she eradicates everything she stands for and goes down to the low levels of violence and the lack of meaning.

“Look at you Katrina! So unlike you! You’re a disgrace! A whore!” Speaking while fending off Katrina’s attacks.
“Never! You’re the disgrace! Taking my life, while not having one of yours! Admit it, sister of mine! You knew all along I had a better life, a better future! Jealousy marred your mind, and harmed me in its way! You crazy drag! You will perish! You will perish!

“QUIET! AGHHH!” aggressively raging on Katrina, as she shields herself.
“AGHH!!!”
“AGHHH!!!”
The battle becomes anonymous, and a victor remains to be seen. Their strength was equal leading to a clash in force. Yet after the smoke clears, no one is seen standing. The great rivalry battle claimed their lives, as death caught up with them. A sad story, a sad tale.
After this great rivalry, the enchanters have disappeared since. Their whereabouts remain unknown, and existence remains in question once again. The nights and lights do not retain their majesty as it was before, showing signs of their absence. It again remains a mystery to everyone, the aftermath of events are now up in the air.

Their story is a vital part of the original history of the enchanters, showing change of personality, while disregarding one’s own. Pride and jelousy feeds our minds the wrong way, and changes the settings of our lives. Letting pride and jealousy enter can and will destroy, so as conceit and dishonesty.

Legends and myths have been a product of the enchantress rivalry. No other epic can match what has told.
The enchanters are forever gone, but can never be forgotten. Their example should serve as universal to everyone, refraining from war and terror. Unlike Katrina and Maiara, pride and jealousy must not let us hinder from realizing our goals. We are all equal.

This is the Enchantress Rivalry. This is their story.
